Scraps – Kolkata, India

Dear friends, there has never been a better time than today to take inventory of your life.  Have you taken enough chances to go after the things in life that make you happy?  Have you pursued enough opportunities to get out of your comfort zone?  Maybe you are chasing after your dreams and challenging yourself to take big risks like me. Seven years ago, I moved out of my comfort zone to start doing humanitarian aid & relief work.

My friends, several years back I took my first trip to Kolkata, India to go work with Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity.  Since I was a little girl it was my dream to meet Mother Teresa and work as her assistant.  There is nothing that could make me happier than being able to work with Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity.

I was not prepared for the level of poverty I witnessed on that trip.  There is nothing that could have prepared my senses for the disease, starvation and odors of the slums.  Seeing the hunger in their eyes developed a hunger in me to continue helping them. I was already making plans on returning as soon possible even before my trip ended. Their struggles were life threatening, however, I still met many families who had joy in their life despite having every reason to complain and feel desperate.

HERE IS WHAT WE DO:
Sometimes I like to imagine what I would do if I lived in their situation.  My compassion and desire to help the poor can overshadow the need for someone to hear their story.  Lulubelle Cares was established so that we could develop strategic plans on how to help the poor and you can help too.  It is our goal to help you experience what it feels like to help the poor from a distance.  It is not uncommon to hear someone say, “where does my donation go and how much of it is being used to ultimately help the poor.”  Lulubelle Cares was also established so that we could share the stories behind your donations.  I can tell you from experience that your donation does matter.

My friends, remember that those living in poverty, especially in other countries, do not have the luxury of wondering whether disease or hunger will take them first.  Every donated meal and all the assistance we provide through Lulubelle Cares is a matter of life or death to them.  Sure, you might be wondering if this is true and believe me it is. Most of the people we have helped did not choose to live the way they do.  Your donation and compassion are providing hope for the future of this world.

HERE IS WHAT WE HAVE DONE (June 2017):
On a trip to Kolkata India with a group of missionaries we had the opportunity to work with Mother Teresa’s Missionary of Charity.  We worked in the home for the sick and dying.

On this trip we participated in feeding, cleaning and spending time with the women who lived in the home. The Sisters who had been assigned to this location told us stories of how these women ended up there.  One of my favorite stories is when I met an elderly woman who was picked up by the Sisters at the airport.  No one knew who left her there.  A concerned citizen let the Sisters know she had been there for days.  This meant she had no food, water or sleep for many days.  Someone just discarded her like trash.  The sisters have a strategic way of going out in their bus almost every afternoon and picking up the poor like this woman. I have learned so many things in this work. One of them is that I have choices whether to allow this woman’s story to negatively affect me or help her with my own love and compassion.  I believe JESUS chose this work for me because he knows that I have the heart for helping the poor.

HERE IS WHAT WE WILL DO:
On our next trip to Kolkata India we will explore strategic plans on how Lulubelle Cares can help the missionaries currently living in India.  We will help them feed the poor living on the streets and in the homes of Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity.  These small acts of kindness that Mother Teresa did everyday served to provide love, hope and compassion to the poor and that is our goal. I realized after going to India and working with the Missionaries of Charity that this act of charity is not about taking them off the streets permanently.  We are saving lives that if gone unnoticed will perish from starvation, disease or crime.

HERE ARE OUR GOALS FOR OUR MISSION TRIPS:
Each trip has a different goal, but the mission is the same, and that is to save starving children and their families.  We aim to save as many lives as possible from starvation and disease.  We aim to partner with local outreach organizations to provide solutions for helping the poor and create opportunities for future generations to find hope.

PLEASE DONATE TO LULUBELLE CARES TODAY:
I am asking for something so big and I am believing that this world will not let another child die of starvation.  Let us show these children we can help and motivate them to follow their dreams.  Show them that the world has not given up on them.  You can help a child survive starvation.  Will you be a miracle and show a starving child that all things are possible:  donate to LulubelleCares.org?
