Do You Care

To most people in the world, Haiti is non-existent. You may not even know they are going through the worst crisis they have ever had. You may not have heard what is currently happening in Haiti, but I have. They are living in the worst conditions possible, and most parts of the world don’t even know about Haiti’s problems, or they just don’t care. Many parts of the country are in a state of chaos. Basic food items (rice, beans, cooking oil, etc.) have risen dramatically in price and are rising daily. In some cases, just to find rice in a Haitian market is not only scarce, but it comes with a 100% higher cost than before.

One of the greatest problems across Haiti is widespread hunger and starvation. It is worse now than it has ever been. The people who are the poorest of the poor have no way to make money, so they have no food at all. Haiti needs help right now! The children are living in garbage dumps and high up in the mountains. All over Haiti, life every day is in a state of emergency. No food and no means to make money. It is often left to the older children to care for their younger siblings while their parents leave to go find food. Sorrow is knowing that an older brother or sister, often as young as five years old, experiences starvation EVERY DAY. They must endure the constant crying of their younger siblings because they are HUNGRY. You may not know that when the children see their parents return home without food, they cry worse. This moves me to action! I cannot sleep or eat, knowing there must be something I can do.

It is a sacrifice to care indeed. But I am willing to go the extra mile because if left unaided, these Haitian children and their families will die. Goodness, kindness, and faithfulness require that I do something. Will you do something to help today?

You remind yourself that our goal is abundant life, but their goal is survival. Our ways are not their ways. But that goodness and kindness in our hearts can guide us to provide food for those starving children. It is very powerful when you make a donation to help the most vulnerable children of this world. We make appointments in our appointment books every day, so here is an opportunity to schedule an appointment with giving. It takes courage to help, especially when you may be broken, but it will mend you. When you are hungry, your help will fill you. When you face a trial, your giving will fuel you to victory. When you face loss, your giving will provide for you. Maybe when you roll over at night from not sleeping because of all the problems that are going over and over in your mind or the tears that fall from your eyes, remember that because you cared, your problem will not seem insurmountable.

I hope when you read this, your life will be transformed by your giving. You will be adopted to a family of glory in the sharing of your richness. This is how you will really know your bigness. The good news is that if you care, you will help save a life no matter how large the number of starving children there are. Your demonstration that you care will not be lost and will go to feed a starving child.  Will you care today??? Maybe today, you will not be lost in the shuffle of the crowd of life because you cared.
